"The Guiding Light" began on radio.  Don Ameche got his start on it, along with thousands of other actors over the decades it was heard on radio and seen on television.  We don't know how many actors this single show employed over its 72 years of production.  But we're certain it meant paychecks for tens of thousands of performers.  We salute the consistent excellence of GL.  Our hats tip especially to current and former AftraNOW members Robert Newman and Kim Zimmer.  With EMMY's galore, you had only to watch a few minutes of them together to know they represented the very best of daytime drama. Even the best shows, however, eventually come to an end.  Technologies shift.  Audiences change.  Formats evolve.  We know change can be exciting.  It can also be quite bittersweet.  To the entire cast and crew, all we can say today is "congratulations on making television history.  And, thank you."
